Short version: there are no accounts, no tracking pixels, no advertising, no analytics scripts, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone.

what is stored

• A random device token kept in your browser's local storage. It is how your hamster is recognised when you come back. Unless you choose to save your hamster (below), it is not linked to an email, a name, or anything about you.
• An email address and password — but only if you choose to save your hamster, which is optional and off by default. The email is stored so you can log in on another device and so a password reset can reach you. The password is never stored: what is kept is a scrypt hash of it, which cannot be turned back into your password. The email is not verified, is never shown to other hamsters, and is not used to send you anything other than a password reset you asked for.
• Your hamster — awake time, items unlocked, coat, status, days visited, and any badges earned.
• Chat messages you send in rooms that allow talking, kept briefly so the room can show recent lines, and retained in a report if somebody reports you.
• Lines you write on the wall in the back room. These are deliberately not temporary: they are kept with your hamster's name after you leave, shown to everyone who walks in, and the most recent one is shown on the front page. The wall holds the last sixty lines and older ones drop off. Treat anything you pin there as permanent and public.
• Seeds, trinkets and what you put on the shelf, including your name against it while it is on display.
• Who invited you. If you first arrived on somebody's invite link, we store a link between your hamster and theirs so their "brought here" count is real. It is stored once, on your first visit, and never changed.
• Reports and blocks you submit.
• Crash reports. If the room fails to draw, your browser sends the error and stack, which room you were in, and what your hamster was wearing. No page contents and nothing you typed.
• Connection address, held in memory only, to limit how many connections one machine can open. It is not written to disk.

clips

The CLIP button saves the last ten seconds of the room as a GIF on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and we never see it. But the recording is of a shared room, so other hamsters, their names and anything on screen at the time will be in the file — and whoever made it can post it anywhere. If you would not want a moment shown to strangers, do not do it in a room with other people in it.

the reminder list

If you leave an email address on the front page to be told when opening night starts, that address is stored on its own — separate from accounts, and not linked to a hamster, a device token, or anything you do in the room. It is used for exactly one message: that the room is open. Nothing else is ever sent to it, and it is never given or sold to anybody.

Every message carries an unsubscribe link that works on the first click, with no form and no confirmation step. Using it deletes the address outright rather than marking it inactive. You can also ask us to remove it at any time.

counting, not tracking

The room keeps a few running totals so we can tell whether anyone is finding it: how many hamsters arrived today, how many got past the front page, how long sessions lasted, and the domain of the site that linked you here — “reddit.com”, never the full address of the page or what you searched for. These are tallies. Nothing in them is attached to your hamster, to your device token, or to you, and there is no way to work backwards from a number to a person. There are still no analytics scripts, no third-party tags, and no cookies.

what is not stored

No password (only an unreadable hash of one), no real name, no location, no advertising or analytics identifiers, and no third-party cookies. The site sets no cookies at all. If you never save your hamster and never join the reminder list, no email address is stored either.

who can see it

Other hamsters can see your generated name, your coat and items, your status, your awake hours, days visited, badges, games won, how many hamsters you have brought in, and what you have on the shelf, by hovering or clicking you. Lines you write on the wall are public to everyone and outlast your visit. That is all public inside the room. Nobody can see your device token, your email address, your seed balance, or who invited you.

deleting it

Clearing your browser's local storage for this site disconnects you from your hamster. If you never saved it to an email address, that is permanent — the data can no longer be reached by anyone, including us. If you did save it, logging back in brings the same hamster back, which is the whole point of saving it.

To delete a saved account, or the hamster behind it, get in touch and we will remove both.

children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used it, contact us and we will remove the record.
